HW Imagination 59 of 250: Max Steel Motorcycle!

06.01.2013 – Max Steel is a super spy hero more of a counterpart to Hasbro’s classic G.I. Joe from the 1960s having related to the toy line of 12 inch action figures. Over the years Max Steel has evolved and became more relevant inspired by spy cult like James Bond but with a superhero twist.

The character first introduced in 1999 through a CGI Animated TV series from the same production company in Mainframe Entertainment (Currently now as Rainmaker Inc.) that brought you Beast Wars Transformers and ReBoot to name a few series that they made.

05.31.2013 – Visprint and Komikon Inc. team up to bring you Mini-Komikon Night as presented The National Book Development Board which features the Philippine comic industry that has the creators of Trese, Filipino Heroes League, Kuting Magiting, Beerkada, West Side and many more as well as the publisher Black Ink.

The short but successful event featured talks by Budjette Tan how he developed the highly popular Trese comic book series with the upcoming sixth book this November. The event was visited my all walks of life who has appreciated the local komiks scene.

BTS: Guillermo Del Toro in Pacific Rim!

05.31.2013 – Pacific Rim is coming and the robot smashing get a stomping anticipation that robot fans can’t wait to see.

But with all the digital spectacle and heavy metal action lies the heart of the machine that makes this would-be blockbuster film.

You’ve seen the recent trailer that showed Manila as one of the places that had the monsters had the first crack at destroying.

Sights & Highlights: Dream Machine at Vinyl on Vinyl!

05.30.2013 – If you missed the launch of Edwin Res Reyes’ solo exhibit in the “Dream Machine” chances are you’re still going to see it at Vinyl on Vinyl for the next two weeks. The imagination created by Reyes would astound the art aficionado in you just seeing how cool these art pieces accompanied with an exclusive resin toy.

You’ll be compelled to explore the world of Edwin Tres Reyes’ latest solo exhibit. The Dream Machine is described it as a conceptualize core, it seeks to capture the zeitgeist of an age where stories were told in purest form.

05.29.2013 – Everyone has already heard and VERY excited about the news that J.J. Abrams will direct the upcoming Star Was Episode VII. After that success of “Star Trek Into Darkness” J.J. Abrams is heading to A Galaxy Far Far Away.

Columnist Reuben V. Napales for the Philippine Daily Inquirer spoke to Abrams a few weeks ago (published in Entertainment May 19, 2013) has asked about his mindset going from one big project to an even grander film, one that has been raising a lot of expectations since it was announced early this year.

05.28.2013 – Man of Steel is just a few weeks away and Warner Bros. is pushing for this film to kick start their own cinematic universe. The toys of course have been out like the much anticipated Movie Masters version from Mattel.

When Superman Returns came out back in 2006 besides the actions figures and merchandise there was even toys that was released by Jollibee. At the same time Kentucky Fried Chicken had their Chuckie Meals that had toys related to Superman.

Inside The Dark Colony's Demon Dungeon!

05.27.2013 – The Dark Colony: Book 1 Mikey Recio & The Secret of The Demon Dungeon is a mouthful long title for a super natural all-original Filipino graphic novel. But the title lives up to its creators in Budjette Tan (Co-Creator of Trese), Bow Guerrero and J.B. “Taps” Tapia that define the super hero genre.

The Philippines is rich with folklore that Neil Gaiman once said that he’s been impressed for its culture and that’s been being the concept of this book. Dark Colony is action packed super natural adventure featuring a teenage hero in Mikey Recio.

Space Seed: Where Khan Begins!

05.26.2013 – Star Trek: The Original Series never got the highest rating in the 1960s but it has built itself a cult following that preceded with the revival in the big screening in The Motion Picture.

But the status of the franchise would put itself up one more notch when they brought in The Wrath of Khan.

The one true villain that put Star Trek in the map of science fiction mythos thanks to the memorable performance of the late great Ricardo Montalban. Any Trekkie, casual or even passing fan would be familiar with this poetic tyrant.

Daredevil #26: Man With Fear!

05.25.2013 – How do you beat anticipation? How about trying to be a blind man like Daredevil? What about hunger? Too many questions in every issue since Marvel rebooted the series you got more questions. There are a lot to know but simple things just can’t be given directly to you.

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee have taken you to a long journey that produced an Eisner Awarding team winning for Best Continuing Series. The journey celebrates its simple anniversary with issue #26 and with that comes a revelation.

05.24.2013 – There are super teams and then we have the heroes in the half shells. For every group or a team there’s one leader. Optimus Prime to the Autobots, then we have Duke in G.I. Joe, Lion-O in Thundercats, and here we have Leonardo from Nickelodeon’s latest hit with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Previously Raphael the Sai wielding bad turtle of the group gets featured with all the fine details of the action figure from Playmates Toys. Now take a look at the fearless Samurai slicing leader of the ninja turtles!

An EPIC 3D Adventure Reviewed!

05.24.2013 – EPIC had a Philippine press screening over the weekend and have tie ups with ETC in bringing a special advance showing for those lucky viewers who won tickets when they conducted a context in their cable channel.

Prior to the screening they showed upcoming movies for Turbo, Pacific Rim and Man of Steel with films distributed by 20th Century Fox. Man of Steel is distributed by Warner Bros. Picture Studios which is heavily promoted with the Philippine screen date of June 12, 2013 in 3D.

Man of Steel: "Fate of your Planet" Trailer!

05.22.2013 – Man of Steel is less than a month away and there several TV spots and promo trailers that have been released in the past few days. It’s getting heavy promotions to heighten its anticipation.

It’s been a long time coming for DC Comics and Warner Bros. Picture Studious to bring back one of the iconic superheroes in the big screen.

Presenting the Autobot Springer from the Transformers 30th Anniversary Generations Toy Line.

Springer is not to be confused with the Transformers Generations Springer Asian Exclusive - though I'm pretty sure that a lot of that will happen. This particular Transformers Generations Springer is the herald of the upcoming 30th year anniversary of the Transformers in 2014 - so do expect to empty your pockets more from now till then.

I've always loved the Green Knight of the Autobot and could never quite understand why Hasbro only released one version (G1) of Springer as a triple changer. Everything else that followed that simply wasn't up to par. So when I saw that they finally did, I absolutely had to grab him

Big Wow Comic Fest 2013: The Event & More!

05.21.2013 – The Post-Big Wow Comic Fest has given us a lasting impression this year which was graced by Stan Lee during Sunday’s main event. Long lines definitely formed longer than what happened last year.

Every year bigger guests makes a visit and continuous to be the comic-centric event defining this THE “comic convention” emphasizing on the comic book industry that has become the American pop culture. Big Wow Comic Fest could be the event San Francisco have wanted for their comic book fans and this could be it!

Big Wow Comic Fest 2013: Stan Lee The Generalissimo!

05.20.2013 – Stan Lee an icon for his body of work is 90 years old and as young as the Generalissimo he’s still growing strong being “The Man” with a huge smile.

He was present during the last day of Big Wow Comic Fest and we caught up with him early afternoon.

The early birds definitely got to see Stan Lee up close and personal as Big Wow Comic Fest certainly drew some huge numbers compared to last year’s attendees.

Big Wow Comic Fest 2013: Superman Mini Exhibit!

05.19.2013 – Big Wow Comic Fest this year focus on promoting the 75th anniversary of Superman and the event doesn't need any further introduction rather show some interesting material with contributions by the artists who made the character known for its lasting legacy.

The event had set up a small exhibit area just at the back of Aspen Comics which was celebrating its 10th anniversary. The first day was received by a huge crowd compared to last year’s event. This year includes big names like Neal Adams, J. Scott Campbell and Stan Lee to grace this annual comic convention.

05.18.2013 – If you’re in San Jose or nearby the Bay area chances are you’ll be interested to check out the Big Wow Comic Fest happening this weekend.

The event focuses heavily on the comic book industry and has been around for quite some time.

This year is bigger than ever with headline guests like Neal Adams and J. Scott Campbell with that guy named Stan Lee who will be on the last day of the event. The first day has a huge attendance greatly surpassing last year.

Toy Kingdom Now Open at SM Aura Premier!

05.18.2013 – Last Thursday SM Aura Premier had a special by invitation opening of the newest shopping mall at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The event was graced by Hollywood A-list in Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex in the City, Flight of the Navigator) who was revealed to be the brand ambassador of the store’s clothing line.

Besides the grand opening of the department store it also has other ribbon cutting ceremonies for the other stores opening during that day. Premier.

05.17.2013 – McDonald’s Happy Meal latest offering in the Philippines in selected parts of Asia is Hello Kitty and Bandai’s VooV. Everyone already knows the famous kitty but not VooV a collection of vehicles that turns into another vehicle.

VooV as Bandai’s “transformation” concept of cars, trucks and other kinds of vehicles which has been around since 2010.

It’s just that nobody took notice of the product that it was sold for clearance in the Philippines.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Trailer Released!

05.15.2013 – The few days of teasers from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has built an excitement for those who have followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There will be questions on Phil Coulson’s faked death that had raised some assumptions.

The first television series produced by Marvel will be aired this Tuesday on ABC in US territory.

05.14.2013 – The toys from Mattel was released last month but for the fans who grew up seeing Christopher Reeve soar high in those original Superman films never had much merchandise when it first came out.

Even Superman Returns haven’t had cooler figures when they first came out with conventions exclusives and limited retail releases. The quality was ahead of its time back in 2006 but with the advent of the Dark Knight changes happen and went up not only how the toys where made it offered a new audience in the Adult Collector market.

05.14.2013 – Man of Steel is less than a month away and previously merchandise tied-up to the film has been released. There are action figures and interesting merchandise that you’ll find almost anywhere but always keep an eye also on the not-so-real ones.

For years SM Department Store for Boys & Teens wear has been producing significant amount of licensed clothing from Warner Bros. and it has become part of their products that bring you for the geeks namely shirts based from comic book heroes. For this year Boys & Teens Wear line of clothing spotlights on the Man of Steel.

The Art of Vincent Vernacatola feat. Gotham's Finest!

05.13.2013 – Ed’s Pool shares Vincent Vernacatola creation. He's an accomplished artist and based on the images shared from Ed's Tumblr page it definitely caught some fan interest. Here's some great art featuring the Batman Family that includes Batman Beyond.

Catwoman certainly is one hot pussy cat to appreciate as the brush strokes and amount of detail getting a lot of LIKEs is something to be amazed about.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Teaser!

05.12.2013 – Angents of S.H.I.E.L.D is finally picked up by ABC and the official Facebook page just revealed the photos of the cast that would form the team around Clark Clegg’s Phil Coulson.

There were several teasers that had come out online which include 7 seconds featuring a super powered individual that a lot of people commenting that it were Luke Cage. But that’s not confirmed officially until the pilot episode gets aired. Read more »

Non-Spoiler Alert! Star Trek Into Darkness!

05.11.2013 – Star Trek Into Darkness has a special press media screening last night at the IMAX Theater in SM North Edsa. Unlike in 2009 this was more of a by invitation for the press media that has calmer audience anticipated to see the film.

Of course there was catered food and a special goodie in the form of the Starfleet insignia made out of cookies that literal ran out.

Prior to the main screening the audience has started to form a line entering the theater.

TMNT 2012 Basic: Raphael!

05.08.2013 – Busting out from the hit animated series from Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Raphael the bad boy among the four fearsome heroes trained by a Japanese mutated human turned rat in Splinter. The action figure is based from the TMNT series that premiered in 2012 has finally arrived in Philippine shores.

It was previously sighted in retail stores such Toys R’ Us and Toy Kingdom carrying the first wave of the series by long time manufacturer of TMNT in Playmates Toys who has been tied to the brand since its original toys came out in 1988.

05.07.2013 – DC Comics most anticipated super hero film in Man of Steel has been getting a lot of promotion this month as this is set to be shown by June 12, 2013 in Philippine cinemas.

Superman being an iconic superhero for the past 75 years is also celebrating its diamond anniversary.

Superman being the most recognizable superhero that pave way for the genre has been a long awaited film since its last one back in 2006.

FCBD 2013: Setting the Record!

05.06.2013 – Last weekend Free Comic Book Day was celebrated in the Philippines. Besides the celebration that was greeted at the Fort Bonifacio High Street last Saturday. There was also the one at Quezon City in National Bookstore with the collaboration with Castle Geek.

This was billed as “Setting the Record” for most sketch cards done by the local artists. It was heavily promoted as early as February that Castle Geek and National Bookstore will be bringing Free Comic Book Day.

FCBD 2013: It's about The Comic Book Fans!

05.05.2013 – Free Comic Book Day in the Philippines has become an unofficial one single event that everyone has anticipated in the past six years. Comic Odyssey has started to promote this event since 2007 and the rest as you all know is history.

The event surrounding the annual celebration originally started in North America but Comic Odyssey was not the first store in the Philippines who has brought this promotion to the local shores. It was actually the former CCHQ (Central Comics Headquarters) in Katipunan from 2002 to 2004.

Today, April 24, Iron Man 3 opens in cinemas all over Metro Manila, so I thought that it would just be apt to blog about Iron Man - that and he's so much fun to Photoshop.

Please also note the attempt to try a different background and lighting.

To the uninitiated, this is the Iron Man Mark III armor. Marvel Legends released three Iron Men in this series, the classic yellow and red Iron Man Mark V Armor, a stealth version (Blue) Iron Man Mark V Armor, and this rare gold and horn-headed version, the Iron Man Mark III.

So this is actually an older version of an Iron Man armor. Marvel actually skipped the Iron Man Mark IV because that one had a nose and simply made him look silly.

Today is once again the day the rebel scum celebrate their victory over the cursed Empire but do you know the true meaning of “May the 4th be you?”

PRESS RELEASE: Pacific Rim Wondercon Exclusive!

05.03.2013 – Wondercon was a delightful event in Anaheim last March 29 to 31 and it was one of the first major US comic conventions to have well known personalities and upcoming films being given the chance for a sneak peek.

One of these films is Pacific Rim and due to persistent clamor, director Guillermo del Toro has agreed to release convention exclusive footage of his upcoming giant-monsters-vs-giant-robots film.

CinemaCon 2013 The Wolverine Trailer!

05.02.2013 – The Wolverine has not have a steady stream of update in regard to the film’s progress but recently AMC Theaters on Youtube has shared the same clip from the CinemaCon which was held on March 24 to 27, 2013 in Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas.

It’s a short clip with a lot of new scenes revealed under a minute about the upcoming sequel to Origins. In this trailer it features and reveals what Silver Samurai looks like in the film minus the mask. Read more »

Toy Sightings: KRE-O Star Trek!

05.01.2013 – Early last year we reported that Hasbro has acquired the Star Trek license and revealed that they have plans to produce new Kre-O building toys with Korean toy maker OxFord. They are the same company who brought in Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Battleship for the Kre-O brand.

The new line was released in the Philippines over the weekend which featured the some of the familiar ships from the 2009 movie and some sets based from “Into Darkness” that are sometimes potential spoilers prior to the release of the film.
