Sights & Highlights: Despicable Me 2 Philippine Premier!

06.30.2013 – The Philippine Premier for Despicable Me 2 brought the house down for those got the glimpse of the film yesterday. The minions have totally ruled the cinema and previous merchandise and Happy Meal toys where released.

It was held at the new IMAX Theater in SM Aura in Taguig City where long lines for the those who got invited to see the much anticipated sequel was all ready to go. Celebrities and personalities graced the screening among them are Phil and James Younghusband.

Despicable Me 2: Agent Lucy Wilde!

06.29.2013 – Who is Agent Lucy Wilde? Of course you've seen her in the promotional trailers for Despicable Me 2. The minions have been a scene stealer but behind the 10,400 little henchmen there are also the other characters like Lucy.

Lucy Wilde is a new character who was voiced by Kristen Wig who original voiced Miss Hatie who runs Miss Hatie’s Home for Girls where Gru adopted his three daughters in the first film.

Cosplay Queen Alodia is FHM's July 2013 Cover Girl!

06.28.2013 – The longest running Philippine men’s magazine in FHM has had illustrious Filipino women who has graced the cover since. It was introduced in March 2000 with Alicia Silverstone on the cover then a Filipino actress named Sunshine Cruz was introduced.



So what’s with the subject that brings us to FHM? Olivia Munn who now appears on The News Room used to be the geekiest girl who went to SDCC in Leia Organa’s slave girl outfit appeared on the covers of another men’s magazine. Read more »

Happy Meal 2013: Despicable Me 2 Goes Global!

06.27.2013 – The Happy Meal toys that was supposed to be for the month of July 2013 in the Philippines is getting sold out. The film has not been shown yet but the toys previously sighted are getting sold out too notably Dave & Stuart interactive minions.The popularity of the minions solidified as the current favorite group of creatures after Smurfs that put them in the cult status. Speaking of the Happy Meal toys previously confirmed to be a total of fifteen minions were discovered to be more than that combined with nine from Philippines and six from Australia.

Reports now that McDonald’s released for their Happy Meal all over the world totaled to SEVENTEEN minions which was discovered in parts of South America having two more not available in other foreign markets.

06.24.2013 – Remember the days during the time when Happy Meal came out with the 101 and 102 Dalmatians during the late 1990s where everyone got caught up with its popularity to collect more than 102 dogs.

McDonald’s these days still brings good quality toys but they can only have in selected regions.

In the previous stories told about such releases like the Megamind toys stands out that you can’t have them released in all regions. This could be a similar thing with the popular Despicable Me 2 minions which has been selling like hot cakes.

McDonald’s Philippines had started selling the minions last June 21st and you have to collect ALL NINE versions.

Located at the fourth floor of the newly opened Fully Booked store at the former parking lot just at the back of Ayala Alabang Town Center and coming from the side of the mall you’ll first that it looked like it was a Comic Odyssey building.

Gatchman Live Action Trailer Revealed!

06.22.2013 – Last April there was news about the upcoming live action film in Gatchaman known in the US as Battle of the Planets and in some parts of Asia as G-Force which was popularly known in the Philippines.

There was a revival of this series in the comic books when Image Comics’ Top Cow publishing had secured the rights to produce its latest series in 2002 that featured the art work of Filipino illustrator Wilson Tortosa & written by David Wohl.

06.21.2013 – They have landed! Despicable Me 2 toys and merchandise has been sighted in one of the local stores in the Philippines. The minions are back with their mischievous antics that will definitely give Gru a major headache aside from being a new father to three little girls last seen in the first movie.

If it wasn’t bad enough to scream “Banana!” surely you will once you see these new action figures, plush toys, figurines and other merchandise related to the upcoming movie from Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures.

Unreleased Toys: Visionaries' Iron Mountain!

06.17.2013 – Visionaries is one of the original 1980s cartoon from the same produces who brought you G.I. Joe and Transformers. However the series only lasted for 13 episodes which were abruptly cancelled.

This goes the same with the comic books that Marvel published under the Star Comics banner which lasted 7 issues. What made this series popular is the toys that was tied up with the cartoon which was also manufactured by Hasbro. It came out with vehicles and what made interesting the holographic gimmick.

Sighted: The Wolverine from Hasbro!

06.16.2013 – More than a week ago The Wolverine merchandise has started appearing in toy stores across Metro Manila. Just like the being trained by the Japanese Samurai from Japan the toys slowly appeared on display.

The upcoming film looks promising but “The Wolverine” merchandise particularly the 4 inch action figures where somewhat a little underwhelming which is similar to “The Amazing Spider-Man” that has lack in quality compared to when the X-Men Origins came out some five years ago.

DC Unlimited: New 52 Superman!

06.14.2013 – The DC Universe Classic was the answer to Marvel’s popular toy line in Marvel Legends which is still coming out with new figures by Hasbro. The DCUC line was discontinued after Wave 20 which was available on retail.

The succeeding line was next known as DC All-Stars but it became unpopular with the fans that Mattel abandoned. It was re-branded as two series of figures in Batman Unlimited and DC Unlimited which by far is confusing for someone who is starting up with the collection.

06.11.2013 – The week is owned by Man of Steel with promotions from Penshoppe a retail clothing store and SM Mall of Asia which launched exclusive licensed shirts as well as having a special exhibit dubbed “Defender of Earth.”

The launch of the events was held last June 8, 2013 the previous Saturday which is an open event with no admission.

The exhibit features Superman from then and now including the current Man of Steel.

TMNT 2012 Basic: Donatello!

06.10.2013 – If you haven’t seen the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle animated series on Nickelodeon you must be living under the rock. The new series that debut in the US last year had a brand new set of action figures, play sets, vehicles, and even role play toys that you can choose from the four turtles with their signature weapons.

But mostly the toys have major interest being a tie-up of the new animated series. If you haven’t seen any of the basic figures lately chances are they are already sold out and it would likely be impossible to get at least one of the four turtles.

Captain Steel appears in Earth 2 #13 a Filipino!

06.09.2013 – Originally known as Commander Steel or some calls him Citizen Steel that was created by Gerry Conway and Don Heck who first made its literary birth in Steel, The Indestructible Man #1 in 1978 where his adventures is set in the World War II.

This is not to be confused with the current character that made its New 52 debut in Earth 2 #13 which changed Steel’s heritage that he was Filipino by birth which was announced early this year by writer James Robinsons during the panel at Wondercon. But certainly it’s getting widespread media attention in the Philippines.

Sighted: MM Man of Steel Wave 2!

06.09.2013 – There’s a new set of Man of Steel action figures that Mattel has released for their Movie Masters series. If the previous set was not as interesting as the upcoming film’s character then you might look harder for these new versions of the characters.

Superman most likely the common in the bunch in the first series release did not come with any accessory save that not to the mysterious “Kryptonian Key” that would largely play a role in the film. It came with the same figure as before packaged in a different pose which is chained to the artifact.

Sighted: Thundercats on Clearance!

06.03.2013 – It’s been clearance for the past months that started with the basic figures which was originally retailed at PhP 599.75 pesos. The four inch figures from the very first wave with the exception of Lion-O went down to PhP 300.00 pesos late last year.

Now that Warner Bros. Animation has officially canceled the new series which lasted 26 episodes for one season leaving a cliffhanger that revealed much more potential for the show. The toys by Bandai didn't took off as what you’d expect but fans of the classic series was hoping the release of the original cartoon characters would expand.
